Video: Dying and afterlife, what a cardiologist has researched

For more than twenty years cardiologist Pim van Lommel studied near-death experiences. As a result of his studies, he believes consciousness exists outside of the human body. In this video he shares a few of those universal elements people experience when coming close to death.

Already a while ago we wrote about his famous book. Because for more than twenty years cardiologist Pim van Lommel systematically studied near-death experiences as he was struck by the number of his patients who claimed to have such experiences after having had a heart attack. As a scientist, this was difficult for him to accept. But wouldn’t it be more irresponsible to, as a scientist, ignore the evidence of these claims?

His research resulted in his renowned study and book Consciousness Beyond Life. It offers an in-depth presentation of his results and theories. In this short interview van Lommel shares his view of the universal elements people encounter when coming close to death. And the reason why he believes that consciousness also exists outside the body.

06:58 In your study, did you also look into the longer term effects of near-death experiences? Do people who have had such experiences change in a way that is lasting?

08:35 Where does consciousness come from? Does it arise in the brain? Or can it also exist without the body?

10:58 If one assumes that consciousness can also exist outside the body, does that not have consequences for medical ethics, for the way we treat people who are close to death?

12:00 Has anything changed for you personally since you have been working on the topic of near-death experiences? And so regarding scientific acceptance of this topic, do you think there have been any developments over the last 10 or 15 years?
